Default How many lbs does it take to drop a size?

Ok, so up to this point when I have gone down a size in clothing it has been about a 20 lb loss. My question is, as I get closer to my goal, will it take fewer lbs to drop a size? Just curious. I know everyone is different so there is no clear answer.

I think so - good old paper towel roll theory! The last 3 lbs I dropped, I lost 3/4 inch off of belly, waist and hips. I'm lifting free weights, too, so I think that helps to actually change your body composition.

I usually drop a size at about 15 pounds.

I've heard that a size = 7 lbs. That's generally been true for me.

When I was 175, 7-14lbs would be a dress size. Now I'm 197, I've lost 15lbs and am still in the same clothes. I anticipate wearing the same trousers for the next 30lbs (albeit uncomfortably) because my midsection is the bit disappearing right now, but as long as my legs are the same size, I'm not going to get into the next size down. A lot of it depends on composition, so think of the last place you put weight on. It seems to drop off for many people on a "last in, first out" basis. Once I lose the next trouser size, I fully anticipate losing 3 sizes on my top half until I'm 10 top half & 16 bottom half. That's why my goal is quite low, apart from being the last place I felt good, it's the only weight I've ever been at where my top and bottom halves are in proportion.

I swear I had a short answer

The old rule of thumb was 10 lbs = a dress size. However, with sizing being as inconsistent as it is today, who knows? The 10 lb rule seems to run true for me. Lost 20 lbs..down 2 sizes. I think, too, it depends on how much you have to lose.

About 20lbs a size for me. I think it really depends on where your body likes to lose the weight from first. I lose evenly throughout my whole body which is why I think it takes me so long to go down in size. I do expect that it will speed up at some point because it would be impossible to keep losing 20lbs per size for let's say size 8 to size 6.

The smaller the clothing sizes, the smaller the difference between them. So, to answer your question: Yes.

I may have posted here before, but I'm back! I started out at 212lbs in tight UK18 trousers. I'm 16lbs lighter and they're loose. I can get INTO (but look thoroughly indecent in) EU40 and UK14 shirts. I'm gonna estimate 25lbs right now, but I'm out of proportion a bit, so the top half's gonna go first. Always does. Meaning the bottom half is gonna be SLOW.

I've lost 115 pounds and I just now HAVE to get smaller pants I'm odd though.

I'm at about 25 pounds per dress size now.

For me it is anywhere from 15-25 pounds, just depends on the item of clothing and what weight I am.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it really does vary from body types.

I would tend to agree with those who said it's a smaller amount the smaller the size. When I first started at like 220 it would take 15-20 lbs, and it has gotten smaller and smaller since then. Between 165 and 140 pounds I went from a 12 to a 6, that's a pretty big change for 25 lbs.

I have found no rhyme or reason yet for size changes even after all this time. I have more of a problem with consistency between brands and sizes. Some 1X tops choke me while others are swimming.

What always has frustrated me with dropping or increasing sizes is that it really varies with designer/brand. I have dresses in size 18 that I can fit into yet I get sooo frustrated that I can't fit into my size 18 jeans, I am still in 20s and 22s. There is clearly a lot of different thought patterns when it comes to designing women's clothes sizes!
